A travel gift still has a national issuing program
Airbnb's buying guide lists supported gift-card markets and explains the formats available from its own service. A destination that can be booked on Airbnb is not automatically a country where a particular gift card can be bought or redeemed. Start with the recipient's eligibility under the issuing program, then plan the trip. This avoids mistaking a card for a worldwide travel payment instrument. The amount in a catalog is useful for comparing budgets only after the national program has been established.
US and UK eligibility are stated separately
Airbnb's US conditions restrict covered US-purchased cards to eligible US residents and require a valid US-issued payment method. Its UK conditions separately require UK use and an eligible UK-issued payment method. These are meaningful account requirements, not merely alternative currency labels. Check the terms that actually govern the recipient rather than using a card from a cheaper foreign program. A traveler's planned accommodation location does not itself demonstrate that the traveler satisfies the gift card's residency or payment-method conditions.
Review what the local card can pay for
The UK conditions describe applying cards to eligible accommodation, experience or service booking charges and identify exclusions such as certain changes, resolution payments and buying further gift cards. They also restrict transferring value after it has been added to an account. Read the current local conditions for the intended booking type before redemption. A gift card should not be presented as an automatic way to settle every charge associated with a stay, especially when an existing reservation or support dispute is involved.
Find the remaining balance before another booking
Airbnb's balance guide directs account holders to Payments and Airbnb gift credit to review the current balance and applied cards. It explains that available gift funds are applied to eligible bookings. Check that balance in the account that received the card before buying a second denomination. Keep the redemption record with the booking details.
